What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?

Also known as Colonic Irrigation, colon hydrotherapy a is a modern and efficient therapy used to provide a comfortable and effective solution in the situations when the eliminative system suffers from irregularity.

Colonic hydrotherapy has been practised for thousands years in ancient Egyptian, Greek, Chinese and Indian civilisations. Modern colonic hydrotherapy is currently used in many hospitals throughout the world as part of their healing programmes for many illnesses, some of which are considered terminal, and is used at clinics the world over for deep cleansing regimes. The demand for colonic hydrotherapy treatment is a testament itself to its healing powers.

What is involved in the treatment?

The treatment involves a gentle internal bath using warm, purified water that can help eliminate stored faecal matter, gas and excess mucus from the colon.

Your visit will involve the taking of your case history followed by an explanation of the procedure. The treatment itself will take about 40-45 minutes during which time water will be gently introduced into the colon via the rectum whilst our therapist uses special massage techniques to stimulate the release of stored matter.

Our therapist is committed to preserving clients’ modesty at all times. You will be fully covered, protected and warm during your treatment. En suite toilet and washing facilities are available for your exclusive use.

What are the potential benefits?

Colonic therapy assists the body’s own mechanism by stimulating the nerves of the colon and helping to improve the motility of the lower bowel which ensures that the body wastes are properly eliminated. It is for those clients who seek improvements to their intestinal discomfort such as bloating, bowel irregularity, yeast infections, IBS, constipation etc as well as more general concerns, for example, skin conditions and stress.

Following the treatment most people quickly experience improved mental and physical well being. The individual speed and level of improvement is dependent upon several factors including bowel action, the amount of toxic load, the number of years of preceding bowel problems and past lifestyle.

Is colon hydrotherapy safe?

Colon hydrotherapy is safe. The water is introduced at a low gentle pressure, which is even lower than the pressure that stools exert on the bowel wall. Our therapist uses fully disposable client kits. Equipment is disposable, using the latest approved sterilisation techniques which will kill all prevalent bacteria, viruses and fungi. Special massage or other techniques may be used to stimulate the release of stored matter.

The therapist treats according to your condition and is in control of the process with your feedback.

Does it hurt?

The treatment itself does not cause pain. At the start of the procedure, you may experience a ‘strange’ sensation of wanting to go to the toilet but most people get used to this feeling in the first few minutes and even find the treatment unexpectedly relaxing and uplifting.

How many treatments do I need?

Everyone is an individual and our therapist advocates a personalised approach to the treatment regime. It all depends on your condition and on the results of the first treatment.

Our therapist will advise you on the number of treatments required and how frequently you should have follow up treatments to maintain your desired level of health as well as other measures such as dietary and lifestyle modifications.

Our therapist offers help and advice to assist you to achieve digestive regularity, experience higher levels of energy and maintain health without compromising on quality.

Colon Hydrotherapy, unlike the use of laxatives, is not habit forming and improves the tone of the colon.

Common conditions treated with colon hydrotherapy

In disease, poor digestion, yeast overgrowth, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation and diarrhoea are usually accompanied by auto-intoxication – literally ‘self-poisoning’ (the re-absorption of soluble wastes into the bloodstream) which places a heavy burden upon the other eliminative organs of the body; the kidneys, skin and lungs.

Chronic constipation may also lead to further direct complications, such as diverticulitis, haemorrhoids, fissures or colitis, as well as chronic toxic conditions in the rest of the body such as acne and eczema. It may also exacerbate inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

The cardiovascular system, the nervous system and the liver are all especially prone to this self-poisoning and this can contribute to feeling heavy, dull and slow.

Will I lose weight?

You may lose weight however you lose wastes only not fat or cellulite. Most people feel lighter after the treatment. If you start eating less, increase your fibre intake, move or exercise more, chew better and drink more water then you will achieve a permanent weight loss.
