Acupuncture is one of the longest-established forms of healthcare in the world, with principles refined over more than 2,000 years. Still highly relevant today, it helps support wellbeing in our busy, often stressful modern lives.
Treatment is tailored to you as an individual, using very fine needles placed at specific points on the body to stimulate the body’s natural healing response. Most people find acupuncture relaxing, with little to no discomfort during treatment.
Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or to relieve specific pains like osteoarthritis of the knee. Some use acupuncture because they feel generally unwell but have no obvious diagnosis. Others choose acupuncture simply to enhance their feeling of well-being.
The British Acupuncture Council (www.acupuncture.org.uk) have produced a variety of research based factsheets on how acupuncture may be beneficial for certain conditions. These include; Anxiety and depression, back and neck pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, hayfever, headaches and migraines, male and female fertility, menstrual and menopausal problems, osteoarthritis, sciatica, Tennis elbow.

What to Expect During Treatment
Most acupuncture sessions are comfortable and relaxing. Because the needles are so fine, many patients feel little, if any, discomfort when they’re placed. It’s common to feel deeply relaxed during the session and even after the needles are removed.
After your initial consultation and assessment, your practitioner will explain the points they’ll work with and discuss what you should expect during and after your treatment.

Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are so fine that most people don’t feel them being inserted. It is normal to feel a mild tingle or dull ache as the acupuncturist adjusts the needle to direct Qi. While the needles are in place most people feel deeply relaxed which can continue after they are removed.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncturists insert very fine needles at precisely located points to connect with your body’s qi. Your Practitioner will decide which points are right for you after a detailed consultation covering every aspect of your health and lifestyle. The aim is to direct the flow of qi to trigger your body’s healing response and to restore physical, emotional and mental equilibrium. Treatment is designed to affect your whole being as well as your symptoms so, as the condition being treated improves, you may notice other health problems resolve and an increased feeling of wellbeing.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one of the longest established forms of healthcare in the world. Acupuncturists are trained to use subtle diagnostic techniques that have been developed and refined for thousands of years. The focus is on you as an individual, not your illness, and all symptoms are seen in relation to each other. Treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to affect the flow of your body’s qi, or vital energy.
What can acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture is commonly used to support pain relief, reduce muscle tension, ease stress, and promote overall wellbeing. It can be used on its own or alongside other treatments.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
This depends on your individual symptoms and how your body responds. Some people notice improvement after one session, while others benefit from a short course of treatments.
